A tyre has no place of its own in a car showroom. We built one for it: a welded steel frame, two different tyre models mounted so the customer could turn the wheels by hand, a backlit logo and a tablet set into the body. The tread was visible from half a metre away and you could touch it.
We programmed presentations of the range onto the tablet, with extra room for the two models displayed on the stand. Customers went through them alone or with a salesperson, at their own pace. The screen showed how the tyres differed, so people knew what to ask about.
The stands went into selected partner showrooms: Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and other premium brands. Customers there were in the middle of a large purchase, already talking specification. The tyre came into that conversation along with the alloys and the winter package.
The brief was about perception. The tyre got the same staging as the cars a metre away. At the point where customers looked at the product and made their decision, the display reinforced Continental’s standing as a premium brand.
The display stood in Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen showrooms, next to cars in its own class. The setting confirmed where the brand belonged.
The wheel turned and the tread was there to inspect. The tyre stopped being a photo in a catalogue.
We prepared the tablet presentations in advance, so every customer got the same information about the same models.
The salesperson had something to walk up to and something to talk about, with no hunting for a brochure in a drawer.
Continental’s standing came through in the display itself: its materials and finish.
